Heidi 'letting it all hang out'

"The great thing about being pregnant and going to these things is that I don’t have to suck my stomach in,” the supermodel and Project Runway host told PEOPLE at Los Angeles Confidential’s pre-Emmy party. “It’s fabulous! I can let it all out.”

And let it out she did...in a fabulous party frock just a few weeks out from the birth of her fourth child. I can imagine that being pregnant for a supermodel has to be pretty weird and also liberating. When everyone knows you for your washboard abs and tiny waist, on some level, for women like Klum that have jobs that require that they manage the size of their bodies constantly, it's easy to see why being pregnant would actually be a relief in a way that for most women it really isn't. I wrote about this same idea in an earlier post about Milla Jovovich.
Milla, as many of you know, gained quite a bit of weight during her first pregnancy (70lbs). She often cited her feelings of empowerment and liberation in being able to eat whatever she wanted after a lifetime of having to watch every morsel of food that passed her lips.

Heidi Klum said the other day that she wasn't sure that she would be able to lose her baby weight in time for the Victoria's Secret runway show in December. In her last pregnancy, she had her baby in September and was famously back on the catwalk in two months. For her own sake, I hope that Heidi doesn't push herself back into her knickers just for the satisfaction of her fans. Having a baby is a big deal. She needs to recover in her own time and not according to everyone else's timeline.

In other news, the BBP has been selected for preservation in PANDORA by the State Library of Victoria. PANDORA is an online archive in which selected Australian websites, deemed to be of 'national importance' are preserved and made permanently available to the public for research and reference. Personal sites, like this, are usually only selected if they provide information of significant research value unavailable elsewhere. PRETTY BLOODY EXCITING!

Liz's losing battle

Headline: Despite endless diets, Liz Hurley's curves are very noticeably growing. Is it a baby on the way or is she losing her battle to hold back time?

Why is it that a woman's stomach can only be 'fat' or 'pregnant' and never in-between if it is not unambiguously flat? Cultural norms continually reiterate that a distended stomach (and I don't see any sign of a bloated belly on Liz) indicates either pregnancy or fatness and nothing ‘in-between’. Whilst the stomach itself does not possess any inherent meaning, its public meaning is created depending on who is doing the ‘looking’ (for example, the media). This whole fiasco about Liz being pregnant or not reinforces the fact that women can never be 'in-between' pregnancy and non-pregnancy. If you are not one or the other, you are just perceived to be fat or in Liz's case 'losing the battle to hold back time'. *sigh*

Posh's post-baby belly

Poor Posh (no, seriously!).

A brief body history:

Felt like she was too fat when she was a Spice Girl. Lost alot of weight. Alot. Became Queen Bee of Disordered Eating. Met David Beckham. Got pregnant x 2. Barely gained any weight. Lost whatever weight she gained and then some with the help of planned caesareans, possible lipsosuction and diet of prawns and ice cubes. Her anorectic chic has become her one and only career highlight.

Now it seems that The Daily Mail thinks that old Posh is getting 'saggy' after being snapped wearing a crop top:

"Her grey cropped T-shirt, complete with a sheer gauze layer, showed a distinct crease just above the waistband of her matching pencil skirt."

Did the author of this article forget that everyone complains that she's too thin? Now because her abdominal muscles are piercing through her skin looking like a 'crease' she is accused of being too 'saggy' because of her pregnancy. What's worse is that the author of the article blames Posh for knowingly exposing her stomach when she herself has said she 'hates' her stomach:
"The 33-year-old singer and mother of three has complained in the past that she looks "really awful naked". She has also spoken of the toll pregnancy has taken on her shape. "There are loads of things I don't like about my body," she said. "I've got so much saggy skin on my stomach."
Victoria Beckham has no fat on her body. I find it so incredibly offensive that not only are women's body parts honed in on and scrutinised without their consent, but that Beckham's supposed failure to have a perfect stomach is blamed on her pregnancy.
Give me a f^%#ing break.
